第6章 Abstract

Taking the spirit of the 18th CPC National Congress and the Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee as fundamental guidance and a series of important speeches delivered by CPC Central Committee General Secretary Xi Jinping as scientific guide, Ecological Civilization and the Beautiful Chinese Dream makes a systematic and comprehensive introduction to the concept, content, nature, characteristics, principles and objectives as well as channels and means of ecological civilization construction. It aims to vigorously promote the concept of ecological civilization and strives to improve the consciousness of the whole society to practice ecological civilization, thus providing theoretical guidance and practical reference to the promotion of ecological civilization construction.

A basic framework of the book is outlined here. Its main line is about a deep understanding of the importance of promoting ecological civilization and constructing a Beautiful China together with the realization of the Beautiful Chinese Dream of building a welloff society in an allround way and achieving sustainable development of the Chinese nation. Starting from the basic connotation of ecological civilization, the book systematically expounds on the development history of China's ecological civilization construction. Then such subthemes as territorial development, ecological safety, resource conservation, industrial development, technological education and ecological culture are elaborated, covering important areas and strategic deployment of ecological civilization construction. The book systematically explains the relationship between ecological civilization construction and the overall layout of "Five in One" on the whole, and elaborates on theoretical and policy questions regarding how to deeply and comprehensively incorporate ecological civilization construction into various aspects and the whole process of economic, political, cultural and social construction.

The 18th CPC National Congress puts ecological civilization construction into a prominent position, incorporating it into the overall layout of "Five in One" in the course of Socialism with Chinese characteristics. The Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee proposes that we should deepen ecological environment management reform by centering on building a beautiful China. It also suggests that we should accelerate system building to promote ecological progress, improve institutions and mechanisms for developing geographical space, conserving resources and protecting the ecological environment and promoting modernization featuring harmonious development between Man and Nature. There is the Economic and Ecological Civilization Reform Focus Group set under the Central Leading Team for Comprehensively Deepening Reform, highlighting the strategic importance of ecological civilization construction in China's longterm development. Ecological Civilization and the Beautiful Chinese Dream is cowritten by theoretical researchers and practitioners who are engaged in ecological civilization construction. The Research and Communication Section of China Ecological Civilization Research and Promotion Association is responsible for framework design and compiling coordination of the book. The publication of this book will exert positive influence on the deepening of theoretical research and practice of ecological civilization in all walks of life nationwide.
