Miao Wei Visited Themed Exhibition to Celebrate the First OPCW Day
In the morning of April 29,2016, Miao Wei, Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology made clear requirements on CWC imple-mentation under new circumstances during his visit to the exhibition“Imple-mentation for Peace-Celebrating the First OPCW Day”held in the Xidan office area of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology(MIIT).
During the visit, Minister Miao learned in detail about the latest progress of CWC implementation around the world and fully affirmed the remarkable achievements made by China in terms of implementation in the past 19 years since CWC came into effect. He stated that China has been consistently supporting the objectives and goals of the Convention, insisting on the comprehensive prohibition and complete destruction of chemical weapons, and earnestly fulfilling the obligations stipulated under the CWC. For the new international and domestic situations and tasks, Minister Miao pointed out that, CWC implementation is of concern to world peace and international society security, to China's political and diplomatic to peoples lives and property and environmental safety. Therefore, the implementation authorities at all levels should strengthen their supervision of controlled chemicals and strictly fulfill the CWC obligations with high senses of political responsibilities and historical missions.
Minister Miao is very concerned about the progress of JACW destruction and stated that 70 years had passed since Chinese people won the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, but the threat posed by the JACW to Chinese people still exist. Safely and completely destroying JACW as early as possible is urgent.
On account of the trend that OPCW will further facilitate the development of chemical technologies and economy in the future, enhance chemical safety and security, and promote green chemical industry, Minister Miao required NOI and authorities at all levels to integrate CWC implementation with the practice of safe development, green development and other development concepts, with the restructuring of chemical industry, thereby to drive the transformation and upgrading of the chemical industry, accelerate development, and better fulfill CWC obligations, bring benefits to mankind and make new contributions to world peace.
