Part Four Situational Dialogues
Dialogue One
Mary and Tony are freshmen. They have just met Mary's friend Bill.
Bill: Hi, Mary.
Mary: Hi, Bill. How's everything?
Bill: Good, thanks. And you?
Mary: Just fine, Bill. I'd like you to meet my classmate, Tony Blake. Tony, this is my friend, Bill Jones.
Bill: Hello, nice to meet you.
Tony: Glad to meet you, too.
Bill: Where are you from, Tony?
Tony: I'm from California. How about you?
Bill: I'm from New York.
Dialogue Two
David and Anthony are on the way to the English Corner when they meet David's teacher, Professor Jackson.
David: Hi, Mr. Jackson.
Jackson: Hi, David.
David: Anthony, I'd like you to meet Professor Jackson. Mr. Jackson, this is my friend, Anthony.
Anthony: It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Jackson.
Jackson: Nice to meet you, Anthony.
Anthony: David told me he enjoys your class very much.
Jackson: Did you, David? Well, David is very active in my class.
Anthony: Oh, that's interesting. Excuse us, we're going to the English Corner. Very pleased meeting you, Professor Jackson.
Jackson: Same here. Have fun!
Dialogue Three
Li Jing, a clerk from Peking University, is meeting an English teacher from the US at the airport.
Li: Excuse me, are you Mr. Anderson from the United States? I'm Li Jing from Peking University.
Mr. Anderson: Yes, I'm Robert Anderson. How do you do, Miss Li?
Li: How do you do, Mr. Anderson?
Mr. Anderson: Thank you for meeting me at the airport.
Li: My pleasure. Welcome to China.
Mr. Anderson: And this is my wife.
Li: How do you do, Mrs. Anderson?
Mrs. Anderson: How do you do? It's nice to meet you. Please call me Maggie.
Li: How was the journey, Maggie?
Mrs. Anderson: Well, it was OK, although a little tiring.
Li: Then let's get your luggage and go to the hotel now.
Mrs. Anderson: Oh, thank you. It's very kind of you.
