Acknowledgments
We once again extend our deep gratitude to the numerous leaders, managers, and executives who shared with us the many ways they used the techniques presented in the first edition of Anytime Coaching in their day-to-day work. We learned firsthand how these managers and leaders applied Anytime Coaching practices and heard personal accounts of their successes and challenges leading in today’s workplace. We interviewed managers in federal government agencies, Fortune 100 leaders, new managers, and seasoned executives. We were gratified to hear how the first edition of our book made a difference in their workplaces. Thank you to the leaders and managers we cited in the book and the many others who helped shape this new edition. We also thank our clients for the privilege of serving as their coaches and for never failing to teach us valuable lessons about coaching even as we assist them.
We continue to proudly acknowledge the faculty of the Georgetown University Leadership Coaching Program and the Institute for Transformational Leadership for improving our understanding of the art of coaching and for coaching us to even greater competency. Our colleagues and friends from the Georgetown coaching community served as a source of support and encouragement throughout our training as well as in writing both editions and beyond.
We remain indebted to the wonderful publishing team at Management Concepts, who asked and encouraged us to write the second edition, especially Myra Strauss, who was unendingly cheerful and helpful every step of the way.
For the new application and content on neuroscience and mindfulness found in this second edition, we owe special gratitude to the longstanding members of the DC Neuroleadership Group (and former DC Neuroleadership LIG), who help make learning neuroscience a joy, Dr. M.A. Greenstein of the Greenstein Institute for her support, and the many mindfulness teachers whose patience and wisdom continue to increase ours.
Kathy Johnson at Management Concepts deserves special thanks. Kathy encouraged us to revisit and update the first edition, provided thoughtful feedback throughout the process, and continues to have a strong vision to support coaching that is accessible to many different leadership audiences. Thanks to Allison Tardif for her help with graphic design and support and Anna Mauldin for her expertise as well as for going the extra mile to spread the word about Anytime Coaching.
We are especially grateful to our families and friends, who once again patiently supported us throughout the entire project. Wendy would like to acknowledge her husband, Andy, for his thoughtfulness and support.
Writing is a solitary endeavor. Finally, we acknowledge the value of working as co-authors. We believe that having another respected colleague constantly available to validate, question, and enhance our work has made the second edition of Anytime Coaching: Unleashing Employee Performance more enjoyable to create and more valuable to you, the reader.
