What is a scatter plot?

A scatter plot is quite recognizable and was immortalized by the late Hans Rosling in his The Joy of Stats television program on the BBC in 2010:

A scatter plot is sometimes called a bubble chart, but in Spotfire nomenclature, it's a scatter plot. A scatter plot is a really useful visualization that can represent multiple dimensions of data at once through its axes and by several other means.

In this section, we will build the scatter plot and then enhance it in various ways, showing some key data concepts and how to make use of them in Spotfire.
