2.Is English Useful or in Common Use？

According to the Swedish press，some of the most popular languages studied in Sweden are German，French and Italian. However，most Swedes find English to be the most useful second language.

In China，in every province more than one million candidates attend CET-4 and CET-6 examinations，and millions more attend the TOEFL，TOEIC and other kinds of English certificate examinations. These are considered important“stepping stones”to a career in well-known foreign-funded enterprises.

At the same time，another language certificate seems to be ignored by Chinese people. This is the National Putonghua Proficiency Test. In contrast to the English certificate exams，only a few jobs（for example，teacher，radio and TV host，etc.）will require employees to pass the National Putonghua Proficiency Test.
