蟠龙庵 / Panlong Nunnery

蟠龙庵是一座历史悠久的寺院，俗称“古庙”或“圣堂”，由蟠龙大寺即普门教寺与圣堂两个寺院合并而成。蟠龙大寺位于村北，圣堂位于村南。据《徐泾志》记载，隋朝仁寿年间（601—604），由如莹法师开山建寺，取名普门教寺，距今已有1400多年的历史。圣堂始建于清乾隆（1736—1795）年间，源于当时从浙江普江寺请来的一尊佛像。1995年，蟠龙大寺和圣堂合并，由明阳大和尚题词为蟠龙庵，于1997年正式建成。

蟠龙庵共有三进佛殿，过山门为天王殿，殿内供奉四大天王。天王殿后为大雄宝殿，殿内主供释迦牟尼佛，并有地藏、观音等佛龛，释迦牟尼佛背后供奉观音。殿后为“净土人间”佛堂，为两层木制楼阁，一层供奉西方三圣，堂内还供奉关公和华佗。在天王殿的西侧建有一个放生池，池上建九曲桥，桥上建亭。放生池北侧为一个菜园，为尼众们种植蔬菜瓜果之处。大雄宝殿西侧建的配殿是一排二层楼房，为日常尼众的住处；东侧建有回廊和侧门，回廊内墙上有功德施主的名录牌。

With a long history, Panlong Nunnery is commonly called “Old Temple” or “Sanctuary” among the locals. The nunnery consists of Panlong Temple (also known as Pumen Temple) and Sanctuary. Panlong Temple is in the north while Sanctuary is in the south. According to the Annual of Xujing County, with a history of more than 1,400 years, the nunnery was originally built by Master Ru Ying from 601 to 604 (the Renshou Period of the Sui Dynasty) and named Pumen Temple. The Sanctuary was built from1736 to 1795 (under the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty) due to a Buddha statue from Pujiang Temple (now in Zhejiang Province). In 1995, Panlong Temple and Sanctuary were merged. It was named Panlong Nunnery and Great Master Mingyang inscribed “Panlong Nunnery” for the new temple. It was completed in 1997.

Panlong Nunnery includes 3 halls. The Heavenly King Hall enshrines 4 Heavenly Kings. The Grand Hall mainly enshrines Shakyamuni and houses altars for Bodhisattva Kshitigarbha and Guanyin. Guanyin is enshrined behind Shakyamuni. Hall of Heaven on the Earth is a two-story wooden hall worships 3 Sages of Western Land on the ground f loor and Guanyu and Huatuo are also enshrined. To the west of the Heavenly King Hall is a Fangsheng Pond. On the pond is a zigzag bridge with a pavilion. To the north of the Fangsheng Pond is a vegetable garden for the nuns to plant fresh vegetables and fruit. In addition, to the west of the Grand Hall is a row of two-story structures for nuns’ daily living, while side doors and corridors with benefactors’ nameplates are to the east.
