Cindy:How do you apply for a job anyway?
Dale: Well, you can go to the classifieds in any newspaper or go online. I'd try both, if I were you. Then select the kind of position you'd
like.Just keep in mind many other people are doing the same thing.
Cindy: So once I've selected a position, what then?
Dale: Write a cover letter expressing your interest in the position and tailor your résumé to suit the requirements.
Cindy: Sounds like a lot of work to me. Why not just call them up or go in person?
Dale:Good luck with that! The company will only ask you for the same thing, unless of course you're really lucky and they need someone on the spot. But the chances of that happening are very, very slim.
Cindy:Well,I'd better get started on my résumé then.Should I copy some samples here?
Dale:I'd start with a nice-looking sample resume andtinker with it until it looks respectable. You want to come across like the ideal candidate. Cut out all the fluff. Employers see through a lot of that.
Cindy: Hey, I think I found one. It's a page long, looks interesting and matches my background.
Dale:Well, you're on your way now.Make sure you keep me in the loop!
Cindy: Will do!
