A Random Talk on the Literalization of the Meaning of the Allusion Words
(School of Literature, Shandong University, Jinan, 250100)
Abstract: The allusion words come from the source of allusion, whose meanings are related to it. But during the development, the meanings of many allusion words will break away from the source, and come close to the literal interpretation, which is called the literalization of the meanings of allusion words. From the mechanism of interpretation, the process of literalization shows two tendencies: in the constituents of the words, those comparatively unfamiliar morphemes tend to be ignored by the language users, while those frequently-seen and familiar ones will catch more attention, whose overall meaning will draw close to their components.
