MongoDB must be set up and running in the development environment before any database features are added to MERN applications. At the time of writing, the current stable version of MongoDB is 3.6.3, and this version of the MongoDB Community Edition is used for developing the applications in this book. The rest of this section provides resources on how to install and run MongoDB.
