Storage Devices solution

The VMware vRealize Operations Management Pack for Storage Devices provides an end-to-end view of topology, statistics, and events at every affected level of the storage area network, including network-related information for NFS and iSCSI.

This solution enables a vSphere administrator working with a virtual environment to isolate problems that are caused by elements in the physical storage stack. The physical storage stack might include the Host bus adapter (HBA), storage switches, and array. The vSphere administrator uses this information to hand off the problem to the domain administrator for further analysis.

This solution discovers the storage switches and applies credentials required to collect data from objects in the storage network. This solution uses the Common Information Model (CIM) to exchange information with objects that are managed by the following management systems:

• Cisco Data Center Network Manager
• Brocade Network Advisor

The Management Pack for Storage Devices adapter discovers objects in your storage topology. This adapter also maps the path of the data between virtual machines on the ESXi host, through the storage network switches, and out to the storage array.
