在长沙接到北京大学录取通知书有感，1951

几回翘首盼佳音，

喜报值千金。

拆函双手微抖，

好讯终来临。

如拂晓，

闯深林，

莫分心。

四年攻读，

错失良机，

有路难寻。

注：

通知书上载明，限九月初去北京大学报到。

A Confession

—Receiving Peking University Letter of Admission in Changsha, 1951

Many a time on tiptoe I pined for news good,

A happy message worth a thousand gold.

Hands trembled to open the letter,

At last the expected tidings to unfold!

Like going into woods deep,

When earth wakes from its sleep,

A heart undivided we keep.

The study four years to last,

Allows no opportunity to be missed,

Lest you get lost on your trip.

Note:

It was required in the letter that Li should report for duty in early September.
