Chapter 4　Disability and mental disorders

In 2016，16，962 disability certificates were issued in Beijing.The total number of the certificate holders was 493，327.Physical disabilities made up the highest proportion（56.7%），then came next visual impairment（10.8%），mental disorders（10.1%），intellectual disability（10.1%），hearing loss（7.0%），speech impairment（0.6%），and multiple disabilities（4.7%）.

In Beijing，six of the severe mental illnesses are registered in a community-based system.The total number of the patients was 63，206 in 2016.7，588 newly-diagnosed cases were recorded by mental health hospitals and clinics，of which 7，342 were permanent residents and 246 were the temporary residents.The major diagnosis was schizophrenia with 3，235 cases（42.6%），and came secondly bipolar disorders with 1，545 cases（20.4%）.
